The Rockefeller building (Top of the Rock can be seen about 10 seconds into the clip.
Haze and reflections of people passing spoil the quality – hoping for better once we get to the 86th floor and the open observatory

The building was designed by and built from 1930 to 1931. Its name is derived from “Empire State”, the nickname of New York State.

Monday, 4th August. 3.05 am. Seriously, did we get up at 1.00 am? Yes, and now that it’s 8 pm New York time and I am still awake, it’s a bit of a miracle.
The journey from Gatwick was uneventful. The 767s from Delta have more legroom than the Air Canada ones I am used to travelling on, but the seats woefully lack padding, resulting in a pair of seriously numb derrière’s.

The slightly disappointing Nissan NV200 Yellow cab we used to get from JFK to Hell’s Kitchen.

We are here for the week and looking forward to every minute of it.
